Transforming Spaces with Laboratory Furniture at AU Katrinebjerg

At Labflex, we pride ourselves on delivering cutting-edge laboratory solutions that are tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients. Recently, we completed a remarkable project at Aarhus University’s (AU) Katrinebjerg Building 5360, a significant step towards creating a state-of-the-art educational and research environment. This renovation encompassed the design, production, and installation of bespoke laboratory furniture, making the facility a cornerstone for interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific innovation.

The Rundbuehallen Transformation

The project focused on the transformation of the Rundbuehallen, an existing two-story building and the project included total area of 560 square meters. Formerly used as office space, the building now serves as a hub for teaching and research, including highly specialized laboratory functions. This renovation aligns with Aarhus University’s broader vision for the Katrinebjerg campus, which emphasizes creating spaces that foster collaboration, innovation, and synergy across academic disciplines.

Aarhus University’s vision for its new facilities can be explored in more detail here, where the aim is to provide both students and staff with enhanced environments that encourage productive interaction between education and research.

Labflex’s Contribution: Precision in Design and Execution

Our task was to ensure that the new laboratories would not only meet the highest standards of functionality but also reflect the university’s vision of modern, collaborative spaces. The design needed to support specific laboratory functions while enhancing the overall aesthetics of the building.

We were responsible for delivering furniture and workstations for multiple specialized laboratories, including:

  • Microscopy Laboratory: Precision is critical in microscopy. We designed highly durable and stable workstations to support advanced microscopy equipment, ensuring optimal performance for sensitive tasks.
  • Preparation Laboratory: For this space, we delivered flexible laboratory benches and storage units that maximize efficiency for preparatory work, allowing easy access to essential tools and materials.
  • SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) Laboratory: Given the technical demands of SEM equipment, we designed furniture that accommodates the large, complex machinery while ensuring the room maintains proper airflow and equipment stability.

The laboratory furniture design was developed with a focus on ergonomics, durability, and adaptability, ensuring that the spaces will serve the current needs of students and researchers, while also being able to accommodate future changes in laboratory technology and practice.

Customized Solutions for AU Katrinebjerg

The furniture solutions we designed for the Katrinebjerg project was bespoke in configuration. Every element was designed and built to meet the specific requirements of each laboratory. The materials chosen were of the highest quality, ensuring longevity in a demanding educational environment. In addition, we integrated features that promote safety and ease of use, such as chemical-resistant surfaces, flexible storage solutions, and height-adjustable tables.

Installation and Collaboration

Our involvement extended beyond design and production to include the full installation process. This ensured that all elements were seamlessly integrated into the building’s layout. Our team worked closely with Aarhus University’s project managers, architects, and contractors to ensure timely delivery and installation while adhering to strict quality control standards.

Throughout the project, collaboration was key. By working hand-in-hand with AU, we were able to ensure that the final product met the university’s requirements for laboratory spaces, supporting a future where students and researchers have the tools and environment they need to excel.

Looking Forward

The transformation of Building 5360 marks a significant milestone in Aarhus University’s ongoing campus development efforts. At Labflex, we are proud to have contributed to a project that will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for groundbreaking research and education for years to come. This project not only highlights our capabilities in delivering highly customized laboratory furniture but also reinforces our commitment to creating spaces where science and education can thrive.

With this project completed, we look forward to continuing our partnership with Aarhus University and supporting their vision of a collaborative, innovative campus.
